The surface element has a material layer that is provided with a predetermined structured surface of a prototype pattern (200) and an impression plate formed based on the prototype pattern. An image of the prototype pattern is applied to the structured surface of the material layer, where the position of the applied image is oriented to the structured surface, such that corresponding elements in the image and structured surface coincide with each other. A carrier layer is made of solid wood, wooden material, plastic, particularly rigid foam, metal, paper, cardboard, stone or ceramic material. An independent claim is included for a method for fabrication of a surface element provided with a decorative surface.
