Monitoring a fermentation of a fermentation product, comprises measuring a refractive index of the fermentation product at temporary intervals by means of a refractometer (12), and determining an actual sugar content of the fermentation product based on this measurement. An actual alcohol content is determined from the actual sugar content based on the initial value for the sugar content and creating a proofing curve in this way. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a measuring device (10) for monitoring the fermentation method of the fermentation product, preferably for carrying out the above mentioned method; (2) a computer program comprising a program code means for carrying out the above mentioned method, when the computer program is executed on a microprocessor of a computer, preferably in the measuring device; (3) a computer program product comprising the program code means, which is stored on a computer legible data carrier, for carrying out the above mentioned method, when the computer program is executed on microprocessor of computer, preferably in the measuring device; and (4) transmitting measured values, comprising transmitting the measured values on the smartphone and subsequently transmitting the measured values to a base station (14) for evaluating the measurement values.
