The memory device (10) has transportation and storage horizontal bars having memory area. The memory area and article-free re-conducting region are compensated in length depending upon memory device level so that whole length of conveying element (12) is constant. The conveying element is differently guided by guide unit in memory area and re-conducting region. Two storage wheels are rotatably supported on two vertically directed axles movably formed in guide unit. Two detour wheels (86) are rotatably supported at two horizontally directed axles (87,88) on deflection rollers (89).
