The method involves opening an exhaust valve (5) at a range between 30-60[deg] , before reaching the bottom dead center. An inlet valve (4) is closed at a range between 40-60[deg] , after reaching the bottom dead center. The fuel is injected into the cylinder (1). The fuel air mixture is developed in the cylinder. The developed fuel air mixture is fired by a spark plug and the clock rate is extended. The piston in the cylinder is moved to the bottom dead center. The exhaust valve is closed and the inlet valve is opened. An independent claim is included for device for operating an internal combustion engine.
