Systems and methods for identifying a weak subset in a battery system are presented. In certain embodiments, a system may include a battery pack that contains multiple subgroups. A measuring system can be designed to determine several electrical subgroup parameters that are assigned to the subgroups. A battery control system can identify a weakest subset based on one or more calculated derivative ratios of an electrical subset parameter associated with a subset of the battery pack relative to an electrical subset parameter associated with another subset.
