The method involves applying an infrared (IR) pass filter coating on selected sub-pixels such that near infrared light is passed within a predetermined wavelength portion by the selected sub-pixels. The transmission of visible light is blocked with color information by the selected sub-pixels. The color information is reconstructed within a visible spectral range for the sub-pixels for long exposure and short exposure to the color-sensitive pixels based on the applied IR-pass filter coating on the selected sub-pixels.
