The method involves determining the validity of an object that is referred to as signal quality (Siq) of a signal connected to a central diagnostic system manager, and determining whether functions are disabled based on the Siq. A replacement reaction is triggered in case of one disabled function, where the Siq is classified such that inhibition of diagnoses and release of replacement reactions are permitted. Error entries and Siq objects are assigned to function identifiers in the diagnostic system manager. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for treating a signal.
