The sensor unit (10a) has an elastically deformable hose (20a), which has a cavity (21), and two pressure sensors (4.1,4.2), which detect wave characteristics of pressure wave propagating in the cavity of the hose and convert the wave characteristics in the corresponding pressure signals during a collision of an obstacle (30). The hose has changing units (100,120) for changing the wave characteristics of the pressure waves and two segments (S1,S2,S3,S4,S5). The different collision areas (A1,A2,A3) are distinguished on the vehicle by the segments and by the changing unit. An independent claim is included for an external paneling for a motor vehicle.
