The device has one adjusting drive moves one end of a counter blade (38) toward a blade (48) of chaff device (22) until the signal value indicating the distance between the blades is a threshold value. Another adjusting drive pulls down the other end of counter blade at the specific distance from the other blade, so that the counter-blade is aligned parallel to the envelope circle of the other blade. The two adjustment drives move the counter-blade simultaneously in parallel position corresponding to a desired cutting gap between the counter-blade and the other blade. The distance measuring unit is arranged to measure the distance between the counter blade and blade. A controller is coupled to an adjusting drive and the distance measuring unit.
