The method involves incorporating a recess (4) into a to-be-treated wood component (1). A test specimen pest (6) in the to-be-treated wood component is inserted in a photograph of a test specimen (8). A portion of the test specimen which includes a recording of the test specimen pest, is introduced into the recess. The test specimen is removed after hot air treatment. The checking is made to check whether the test specimen pest in the to-be-treated wood component has survived the hot air treatment. An independent claim is included for a test specimen.
