The method involves manufacturing a base substrate of the covering in the form of a woven or nonwoven fabric. The surface of the base substrate is activated area wise by an activation unit (4). A polymer material (2) is applied area wise on the activated area of the base substrate. A plasma (5) acts on a paper machine covering (1) by lowering the surface tension through the activation unit. An independent claim is included for a covering with filaments.
