The high pressure pump has a housing part (1) with a suction valve (2) for filling a pump operating chamber (3) of the high pressure pump with fuel. The suction valve has a valve plate (4) with an axial bore (5), in which a piston-shaped valve element (6) is received in axially displaceable manner. The valve plate is pressed in a bore of the housing part of the high pressure pump. An independent claim is included for a method for manufacturing a high pressure pump for a fuel injection system, particularly a common-rail injection system.
