The method involves producing a synthetic projection image with projection images recorded by tomo-synthesis scans, where the synthetic projection image corresponds to a projection with a projection angle. The projection image is recorded by another tomo-synthesis scan. A difference image is produced from the synthetic projection image and the projection image recorded by the former tomo-synthesis scan. The difference image is used for the reconstruction of a tomo-synthetic X-ray image and produced by a weighted subtraction. An independent claim is also included for a mammography apparatus.
