The mechanism (32) has a lower gear plate (10) which is in geared connection with an upper gear plate (11). The upper gear plate is configured to rotate eccentrically in relation to the lower gear plate. A locking spring (3) is located in a bore of a lock cylinder (6) so that an outside surface of locking spring engages lock cylinder to prevent lock cylinder and lower gear from rotating. Ends of lock spring are engaged with a knob hub (2) and a driver hub (5) so that rotation of knob hub unlocks recliner to allow adjustment by operator, while rotation of driver hub locks mechanism.
