The system has a detection module (110) that is provided to detect a current in a main circuit of a flat panel electronic apparatus. A control mechanism (120) is provided to diminish a brightness level of a backlight unit (130) of the flat panel electronic apparatus, if the current in the main circuit is larger than or equal to a threshold value. The current in the main circuit is diminished to smaller than the threshold value. An independent claim is included for a method for controlling current in flat panel electronic apparatus.
