The invention relates to a method for reducing the raw particulate emission of a spark-ignited internal combustion engine with– at least one cylinder, in which a piston, in the case of which is connected to a crankshaft is in operation, internal combustion engine, between a lower dead center (bdc) and an upper dead center (tdc) oscillates and in which an injection nozzle for the direct injection of fuel is provided,– a fuel supply system for the supply of the at least one cylinder with fuel, and– a starting device, with which the crankshaft during the starting necessarily is set into rotation.It should provide a process with which, in particular, the raw particulate emission in the starting phase of the internal combustion engine is reduced clearly.This is achieved by means of a method of the aforementioned type, which is characterized in that, upon starting of the internal combustion engine– the starting device is activated in order to set the crankshaft into rotation,– the at least one cylinder only then is supplied with fuel, when the fuel pressure pfuel in the fuel supply system a minimum pressure pfuel, min with p has reachedfuel ≥ pfuel, min, and– in the cylinder by at least a late injection, a layered cylinder charge is generated, for which purpose this at least one injection, in the context of the predominant proportion of the fuel is provided in the expansion phase is carried out.
