The device has a coolant circuit including a main loop (2) that passes through a combustion engine (1) between a water inlet (11) and a water outlet (12). The main loop comprises a valve (3) to allow or block circulation of a liquid coolant through the engine. The engine comprises an exhaust gas recirculation system with a cooling branch (4), which comprises an input nozzle (41) on the main loop upstream to the water inlet and an outlet nozzle (42) on the main loop downstream to the water outlet, where the valve does not block the circulation of the liquid coolant in the cooling branch. An independent claim is also included for a method for managing a coolant circuit of an engine.
