The system has a compressed air tank (3) and an internal combustion engine (1) that is equipped with a combustion chamber (2). The chamber is associated with an inlet valve (4), an exhaust valve (5) and a charging valve (6). The tank is in communication with the chamber via a connection pipe (16) emerging in a charging collector (17). The charging valve controls passage of air entering the tank and the chamber. A pressure regulation unit i.e. motorized butterfly case (18), regulates pressure of air outgoing from the tank and entering the chamber when the charging valve is open. An independent claim is also included for a method for using a hybrid propulsion system.
