The device (D) has a control unit (MC) for causing locking of a secondary freewheel (RL2) when a thermal engine (MT) makes displacement of a hybrid vehicle (V) such that a starter (AD) rotates an engine shaft (AM) to a rotation speed until a primary freewheel (RL1) is not locked to trigger combustion in the thermal engine. The primary freewheel is connected between the thermal engine and a gearbox (BV). A clutch (EM) is coupled to a drive shaft (A1) and couples the engine shaft and an input shaft (A2). The control unit controls unlocking of the secondary freewheel. An independent claim is also included for a hybrid vehicle.
