The nanostructure has a primary nano-element (12-1 to 12-3) formed in an elongated semiconductor material and oriented in a direction. A secondary nano-element (16-1 to 16-3) is formed in another elongated semiconductor material and extends from the primary nano-element such that the secondary nano-element is oriented in another direction (D2-1 to D2-3) that is different from the former direction, where the semiconductor materials are silicon containing materials. The primary nano-element is directed related to a substrate (10) at an angle of about 90 degree. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an electrode for a battery (2) a method for manufacturing a nanostructure for an electrode of a battery.
