The method involves determining a setpoint that is representative of current that is to be produced by an energy production unit i.e. alternator-starter (AD). Another setpoint representative of current that is to be circulated in an electric power storage unit i.e. stable battery (MS) such as lithium-ion battery, is determined according to a requested lifetime of a vehicle (V) i.e. automobile, a required operation point for the electric power storage unit, and a measurement of current circulating in the electric power storage unit.
