The method involves providing torque ranging between minimum torque and maximum torque by a thermal engine (MT) based on the need. Coupling of an electric machine (ME1) to a transmission chain of a hybrid vehicle (V) is performed when the torque is less than the minimum torque or greater than the maximum torque or uncoupling of the machine from the transmission chain is performed when the torque lies between the minimum torque and the maximum torque, where the coupling of the machine to the chain is performed in presence of information signaling acceleration need of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a device for assisting to coupling/decoupling of a machine to a transmission chain of a hybrid vehicle.
