The method involves detecting a handling characteristic (40) of a mobile remote control (22) by a detection unit of the remote control that controls home automation equipments (12.1-12.4). An active state of the home automation equipments is changed by the remote control in response with an actual manipulation of the remote control detected by the detection unit. An identification sequence is provided with a state change from an initial state followed by return to the initial state when the actual manipulation corresponds to selection manipulation of the home automation equipments. The home automation equipments are designed as home automation closing screens, sun-shading or projection devices, blinds or roller shutters. An independent claim is also included for a home automation installation.
