Pyrotechnic process for providing hydrogen at a pressure of = 5.10 5 Pa and a temperature of less than 200[deg] C, comprises combusting at least one solid pyrotechnic charge (4) for producing hot, hydrogenated gas, under pressure, containing 70 vol.% of hydrogen, temporarily storing at least one part of hydrogen in the form of a metal hydride, and heating the metal hydride for delivering hydrogen at a pressure of = 10 5 Pa and a temperature of less than 200[deg] C. An independent claim is included for a pyrotechnic device for providing hydrogen, comprising a chamber (3) provided with at least one delivery orifice (5) and arranged for combusting the solid pyrotechnic charge at high pressure for delivering hot hydrogen gas, under pressure, and a tank (7) that is suitable for arrangement in its volume of a compound for storing the hydrogen in the form of metal hydride and is provided with a heating unit and a hydrogen delivering unit, where the chamber is connected, via the delivering orifice, by a tube at least one tank.
