The method involves acquiring a measurement i.e. light intensity (LFL) and temperature measurement (TPL), representative of operation of a light source (LS), and determining a value of supply current (LC1-p) of the source and/or a value of duration of integration (IT1-n) of photosensitive cells of a sensor (OPS) based on the measurement. A supply current corresponding to the determined value of supply current is provided if the value of duration and/or of supply current lies between threshold values. Integration duration of the cells is adjusted to the determined value of integration duration. An independent claim is also included for a spectrometer.
