The device (24) has a handling boom (50) and a guide tip (56) attached to a distal end (54) of the handling boom. The guide tip includes a guide surface (72) intended to contact a lower end of a peripheral rod during the insertion of the peripheral rod in a nuclear fuel assembly, to guide the peripheral rod so that the peripheral rod fits into a corresponding peripheral cell of a grid. The handling boom extends along a longitudinal axis (N), where the guide surface is inclined relative to the longitudinal pole axis. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an installation for inserting a peripheral rod in a water-filled pool of a nuclear fuel assembly (2) a method for inserting a peripheral rod in a water-filled pool of a nuclear fuel assembly.
