The device (1) has a starter (2) initiating a detonator (3) through a main conduit (4) provided with a pyrotechnic delay part (5). A selection unit (10) selects an instantaneous operating mode or a delayed operating mode. A secondary conduit (6) communicates with the main conduit by an inlet orifice (7). The selection unit closes the orifice for concentrating combustion gases in the main conduit and inhibits the delay part in the instantaneous operating mode, and opens the orifice for deflecting a portion of the combustion gases and allows the operation of the delay part in the delayed mode. An independent claim is also included for an impact fuse.
