The stool (1) has an upper structure (2) comprising steps (8), and a carriage (4) equipped with rollers (32, 34) and a movable connection. A rubber band (40) is supported on the carriage by applying a permanent upward force on the upper structure for lifting the carriage when the carriage is empty. A locking system (42) automatically locks the upper structure in a lower position relative to the carriage when the upper structure is mounted by an operator. A releasing unit is actuated by the operator, and the movable connection comprises pivots (16) arranged on a side of the carriage.
