The method involves determining whether pixels of images in the vicinity of one pixel are representative of one of zones (E203), from values of neighbor pixels, where a text is clearer than background in one zone or the text is darker than the background in another zone. A threshold is determined (E204) if the pixels in the vicinity of the pixel are representative of the zone. One of values is assigned (E205) to the pixel according to the comparison of the value of the pixel with the determined threshold. An independent claim is also included for a device for assigning values of pixels of images corresponding to text or background.
