Detecting the potential for instabilities in a two-phase fluid system

Methods, apparatus, and computer-readable media are provided, including a computer-implemented method for detecting a potential for dynamic instability in a fluid system. The method includes generating a first transfer function in a frequency domain. The first transfer function relates a pressure drop perturbation to a fluid velocity perturbation in a single-phase flow section of the fluid system. The method further includes generating a second transfer function in the frequency domain. The second transfer function relates a pressure drop perturbation to a fluid velocity perturbation in a multiphase flow section of the fluid system. The method also includes determining, using a processor, that the fluid system is potentially unstable using a combination of the first and second transfer functions.
