Flexographic printer and printing process using a colour space that can be printed using CMYK inks

A flexographic printing apparatus 1 for recreating at least one color from at least 1000 spot colours on to a substrate 12 using only the CMYK inks comprises: at least one ink reservoir 2; a plate cylinder 8 comprising a flexographic plate; at least one meter roll 6; an impression cylinder 10 for sandwiching a substrate 12 between the impression cylinder 10 and the flexographic plate to transfer the ink thereon to the substrate; wherein the flexographic plate comprises a plurality of flat top dots. The meter roll 6 is preferably an anilox roller. The invention further relates to a flexographic printing process for recreating at least one colour from a group of at least 1000 spot colors on to a substrate using only the CMYK inks and to a CIELab colour space obtainable by said process.
