GENOME-REDUCED STRAIN OF SCHIZOSACCHAROMYCES POMBE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a genome-reduced strain of Schizosaccharomyces pombe (S. pombe), in which the chromosomes are largely removed; a genome-reduced strain of S. pombe for use in the expression of a protein; and a method for producing a protein using the genome-reduced strain of S. pombe for use in the expression of a protein.SOLUTION: In a genome-reduced strain of Schizosaccharomyces pombe (S. pombe), at least one region selected from the group consisting of the below-mentioned regions (a) to (d) is/are removed from the chromosomes of S. pombe: (a) a region which is at least a part of chromosome-1, where the part is located on a distal left arm side from trs33 locus in chromosome-1 and does not contain a telomere; (b) a region which is at least a part of chromosome-1, where the part is located on a distal right arm side from a sec16 locus of chromosome-1 and does not contain a telomere; (c) a region which is at least a part of chromosome-2, where the part is located on a distal left arm side from zas1 locus in chromosome-2 and does not contain a telomere; and (d) a region which is at least a part of chromosome-2, where the part is located on a distal right arm side from a usp109 locus of chromosome-2 and does not contain a telomere. The total length of the removed region is 0.9% or more of the length of the genome of the wild-type S. pombe.
