PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selenium insolubilizing material for soil, which can suppress elution of selenium in selenium-containing soil and can solidify and improve the selenium-containing soil.SOLUTION: The selenium insolubilizing material for soil contains a reductive substance and a magnesium-containing substance. A method for insolubilizing selenium in soil comprises a step of mixing the selenium insolubilizing material for soil with the soil, which soil has 0.01 mg/L or more of the amount of eluted hexavalent selenium in the selenium eluted by a selenium elution test method to be executed according to Item 18 of Environmental Agency Notification, to insolubilize the selenium in the soil. It does not matter if the selenium insolubilizing material for soil further contains an auxiliary material.
