PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a formed article capable of obtaining the article having desired plate thickness distribution, and to provide a hydraulic bulging die used therefor.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a formed article includes: a previous process of applying hydraulic pressure to one or two material metal plates 70 held between a pair of upper and lower hydraulic bulging dies 30 and bulge-forming the material metal plate 70 in the cavity parts (41a, 41b, 51a, 51b) of the dies 30; and a post-process of forming the bulge-formed material metal plate into a desired shape. In holding the metal plate 70 in the previous process, plural pads (31a, 31b, 32) that the dies 30 have are used, a part of the material metal plate 70 is folded, and after that, the folded part is flattened while restraining the peripheral part of the folded part.
