PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting and/or identifying microorganisms carrying extended-spectrum &bgr;-lactamase genes responsible for nosocomial infections arising around the world.SOLUTION: Provided are oligonucleotides and probes, and kits comprising the same for detecting the bacterial CTX-M sequences, as well as methods for detecting and/or amplifying microorganisms carrying extended-spectrum &bgr;-lactamase genes, including CTX-M type extended-spectrum &bgr;-lactamase genes.
