PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst and a process for producing high-purity propylene from olefin-containing stream at low cost and low energy.SOLUTION: A process comprises bringing a hydrocarbon stream into contact with a double bond isomerization-metathesis catalyst to isomerize 1-butene into 2-butene and form metathesis products containing propylene. The double bond isomerization-metathesis catalyst comprises a catalyst compound containing at least one element selected from tungsten, tantalum, niobium, molybdenum, nickel, palladium, osmium, iridium, rhodium, vanadium, ruthenium, and rhenium which provide metathesis activity on a catalyst support which contains at least one element from the groups IA, IIA, IIB, and IIIA of the element periodic table. An exposed surface area of the catalyst support provides both an isomerization activity for isomerizing 1-butene into 2-butene and a reaction site for absorbing catalyst compound poisons.
