METHODS FOR PREPARATION OF TARGETING AGENT FUNCTIONALIZED WITH DIBLOCK COPOLYMERS FOR USE IN FABRICATION OF THERAPEUTIC TARGETED NANOPARTICLES
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of preparing nanoparticles capable of coupling a targeting agent, using pre-functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as a macroinitiator for synthesis of diblock copolymers for drug delivery.SOLUTION: A method of preparing nanoparticles comprises: providing a targeting agent; providing a functionalized PEG polymer; providing a targeting agent ligand; reacting the functionalized PEG polymer with the targeting agent to form a targeting agent-PEG polymer complex; and mixing the targeting agent-PEG polymer complex with a second polymer and a therapeutic agent to form nanoparticles.
