TITANIUM COMPOUNDS AND COMPLEXES AS WELL AS MOLYBDENUM COMPOUNDS AND COMPLEXES AS ADDITIVES IN LUBRICANTS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating composition that provides beneficial effects on properties such as deposit control, oxidation, and filterability in engine oils.SOLUTION: A lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity, 1 to 1000 parts per million by weight of titanium in the form of an oil-soluble titanium-containing material, and at least one additional lubricant additive provides beneficial effects on properties such as deposit control, oxidation, and filterability in engine oils. A lubricating composition comprises: (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; (b) about 20 to about 300 parts per million by weight of titanium in the form of an oil-soluble titanium-containing material; (c) about 40 to about 500 parts per million by weight of molybdenum in the form of an oil-soluble molybdenum-containing material; and (d) about 0.3 to about 3 percent by weight of a hindered phenolic antioxidant.
