PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel cultured plant cells for sesamin production for stably synthesizing a large amount of sesamin, methods for producing sesamin by using the cells and methods for storing the cells.SOLUTION: The invention relates to cultured cells derived from a plant expressing an endogenous pinoresinol/lariciresinol reductase and an endogenous pinoresinol glycosidation enzyme, where the cultured plant cells are modified to suppress expression of the endogenous pinoresinol/lariciresinol reductase and the endogenous pinoresinol glycosidation enzyme and expressing an exogenous sesamin synthetase.
