RASAGILINE FOR PARKINSON'S DISEASE MITIGATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for identifying, and reducing the rate of progression of, Parkinson's disease in an early stage Parkinson's disease patient.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for mitigating Parkinson's disease by periodically administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of rasagiline[(R)-2,3-dihydro-N-(2-propynyl)-1H-inden] or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of rasagiline to a patient, thereby mitigating the disease. The method includes: reducing the rate of progression; delaying the need for anti-Parkinsonian therapy; reducing the risk of a Parkinson's disease patient requiring symptomatic anti-Parkinsonian therapy; and reducing the functional decline.
