PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject position detection device and a subject position detection method that are capable of using existing focusing means together, enable a calculation of a distance to a subject, and enable reduction in size of an imaging device.;SOLUTION: A subject position detection device 100 is configured to detect a position of a subject, which is a shooting object of a focus position variable imaging device. The subject position detection device 100 comprises: a pattern projection part 110 that projects a pattern toward the subject; an imaging part 120 that photographs the subject having the pattern projected; a reference image calculation part 130 that calculates a plurality of reference images when photographing the pattern for a plurality of subject positions by the imaging device in a state where the imaging device is set to a current focus position; and a subject position calculation part 140 that compares an image in which the subject having the pattern projected is photographed by the imaging device 120 with the plurality of reference images calculated by the reference image calculation part 130, and thereby calculates the subject position.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2015,JPO&INPIT
