PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which can reduce the cost of producing biomass derived from microorganisms, particularly the cost of producing biomass derived from microalgae.;SOLUTION: Microorganisms are cultured within a region between a water absorbing polymer gel and a substrate. A structure constituted of a water absorbing gel and a substrate can be cultured in a condition where it is set horizontally to the ground, and can also be cultured in a condition where it is set at a certain angle to the ground.
