PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape device that performs a read of video data stored in a tape, with priority given to reproduction of a video few in an intermission of a video application of a host.;SOLUTION: A read control of a magnetic tape device is configured to: receive a video special mode reading out video data from a host; skip a prescribed error recovery process when a C2 error occurs upon reading a data set; when attribute information (DSIT) about the data set of the C2 error is readable, skip a transmission of a record included the data set of the C2 error to the host; and acquire the number of skip records included the data set of the C2 error from the DSIT, and notify the host of the number of skip records.
