PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a composition for forming a thermoelectric conversion layer which is superior in thermoelectric property; and a thermoelectric conversion layer device and a thermoelectric power generation article which are arranged by using such a composition for thermoelectric conversion layer formation.SOLUTION: A composition for forming a thermoelectric conversion layer comprises inorganic particles having an average particle diameter of 1.0 m or smaller. In the case of the inorganic particles having a band gap of 1.5 eV or smaller, the composition includes a carrier-transporting material which satisfies at least one of the condition of having a mobility of 0.001 cm/Vs or larger, and the condition of having a carrier density of 1E10 to 1E21 cm. In the case of the inorganic particles having a band gap over 1.5 eV, the composition includes a material for thermal excitation source which is an organic material satisfying the condition of having a band gap of 1.5 eV or smaller.
