PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operational method for a reaction apparatus for elongating the life of expansion/joint provided in the reaction apparatus, and a degradation inhibition method for the expansion/joint.SOLUTION: An operational method for a reaction apparatus 1 includes using expansion/joint 51-53 having a gas line 34 having an internal fluid temperature of 640-800°C, and including bellows comprising nickel-chromium alloy in the gas line 34, and controls a temperature of the bellows to be 240°C or more and 427°C or less. The degradation inhibition method for the expansion/joint 51-53 to be used for the gas line 34 connected to the reaction apparatus 1, and including the bellows comprising nickel-chromium alloy controls a temperature of the bellows to be 240°C or more and 427°C or less.
