PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a cross-sectional area of a lumen perpendicular to a long axis of a hollow organ can be calculated.;SOLUTION: A luminal cross-sectional area calculation method includes: a tomographic image generation step of emitting a wave beam toward a lumen wall of the hollow organ from a catheter inserted into a lumen of the hollow organ, moving an emission position in a long axis direction of the catheter while rotating the emission direction around a long axis of the catheter, detecting and analyzing a wave returning from the lumen wall of the hollow organ and then generating a tomographic image of the hollow organ perpendicular to the long axis of the catheter at each position along the long axis of the catheter; an angle calculation step of calculating an angle between the long axis of the catheter and the long axis of the hollow organ; and a cross-sectional area calculation step of calculating, on the basis of the angle calculated in the angle calculation step, a cross-sectional area of the lumen of the hollow organ perpendicular to the hollow organ at each position along the long axis of the hollow organ, using the tomographic image of the hollow organ at each position along the long axis of the catheter.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2015,JPO&INPIT
