PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for continuously determining existence of a person in a vehicle of a public transportation.SOLUTION: In a method for continuously determining existence of a person in a public transportation, a customer medium including an RF transceiver is allocated to an object person, and at least one reading device connected to a computer which operates as an onboard unit for the purpose of data communication is provided to each crew compartment or vehicle for data communication with the customer medium on the vehicle. When several reading devices are provided, they are connected to each other, and when there exists several crew compartments or vehicles, the onboard unit which operates as a main onboard unit is allocated to a certain crew compartment or vehicle, and secondary onboard units connected to the main onboard unit for the purpose of data communication are allocated to the other crew compartments or vehicles. The customer medium enters a transportation in a "sleep" mode in order to maintain energy consumption at a lower level as possible.
