PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bio-based polyester resin which can be used in toner made by a one-pot process that reduces complexity.SOLUTION: A process for making a polyester polymer in a single reactor comprises: (i) preparing a rosin diol from a bio-based rosin acid and a cyclic alkylene glycol; and (ii) reacting the rosin diol with butyl ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid to form the polyester polymer. The process of preparing the rosin diol is a reaction process to synthesize a polyester including tetraethyl ammonium bromide and a catalyst. A process for making toner particles comprises combining the polyester, an amorphous resin, a crystalline resin, a wax and a colorant to form an emulsion, aggregating it, freezing growth of the aggregated particles, and coalescing them.
