PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide cosmetic, therapeutic or diagnostic application means based on chromosomes including canities-related genes.SOLUTION: The present invention provides use of at least one polynucleotide fragment in production of therapeutic drugs or for cosmetic purposes in the pigmentation field. The fragment comprises at least 18 consecutive nucleotides, the sequence of which corresponds to all or part of a gene on human chromosome 9 selected from among the FREQ, NT_030046.18, NT_030046.17, GTF3C5, CEL, CELL, FS, ABO, BARHL1, DDX31, GTF3C4 and Q96MA6 genes. The length of the fragment is in the range from 30 to 5000 nucleotides.
