PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect a defect generated on a slab surface during continuous casting without missing the defect during the continuous casting, and to detect an abnormal place of a continuous casting machine which causes the generation of the surface defect of a slab.;SOLUTION: A method of detecting a slab surface defect and facility abnormality of a continuous casting machine includes: measuring a surface temperature of a slab 11 produced owing to a stop in the continuous casting machine 1 upstream or downstream in a casting direction of a correction zone 9 of the continuous casting machine; determining a defect being generated on a slab surface when the measured surface temperature of the slab is lower than a previously set target temperature by a threshold or larger value and when a region which is lower in surface temperature by the threshold or larger value reaches a predetermined length in the casting direction; specifying a region of a secondary cooling zone 6 which causes the region which is lower in surface temperature by the threshold or larger value to be generated in the slab; and determining that facility abnormality occurs to the specified region of the secondary cooling zone.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2015,JPO&INPIT
